Mozambique is located in the southern

part of Africa on the Indian Ocean.

It borders with 6 other countries:

South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe,

Malawi, Zambia and Tanzania.

Population: 19 million (Florida has

16 million residents)

Land Size: Equivalent to a total

combination of Fl, Ga, Al, Tn, Ky, Oh

and In. The length of Mozambique is

equivalent to two California coastlines.

Language: Portuguese is the national

language although 39 indigenous languages are spoken as the native tongue.

Religion: Traditional indigenous beliefs, Catholic, Christian, Muslim

Literacy: only 40% of those age 15 and over can read and write

Life Expectancy: 37 years

1996 listed as the world’s poorest country in the world by UN
